Overview
SUNYIT is a member of the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division III), the North
Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), and the Eastern Collegiate
Athletic Conference (ECAC). The Wildcats also compete in the
United Volleyball Conference (UVC) for men's volleyball.
SUNYIT began its intercollegiate sports program in the early
1980s, practicing and playing at various venues in Utica and at the
New York Mills School District's Beekman Gym until the Campus
Center athletic facilities opened in late 1988. SUNYIT was accepted
as a Division III member of the NCAA in 1990 and into the State
University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in
1992.
SUNYIT made a successful transition from the SUNYAC to the NEAC
during the 2008-09 academic year. Member schools of the NEAC
currently include Cazenovia College (Cazenovia, NY), the College of
Saint Elizabeth (Morristown, NJ), Keuka College (Keuka, NY),
Morrisville State College (Morrisville, NY), Penn State University
- Abington (Abington, PA), Penn State University - Berks (Reading,
PA), Penn State University - Harrisburg (Middletown, PA), SUNY
Cobleskill (Cobleskill, NY), Wells College (Aurora, NY) and Wilson
College (Chambersburg, PA), Gallaudet (Washington, DC), and
Lancaster Bible College (Lancaster, PA).
The current roster of SUNYIT sports includes baseball, men's and
women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and
women's soccer, softball, and men's and women's volleyball.
Men's and women's lacrosse have been added to the sports offered
and began competition in the spring 2012 season.
The college recently completed construction of a $20 million field
house and lighted turf field. The field house is the new home for
the Wildcat athletic programs and the campus intramural and
recreation programs and features a state-of-the-art fitness center,
two full-sized basketball courts and four volleyball courts, indoor
practice facilities for all Wildcat teams, a running track, an
expansive training room, team rooms, and offices for the athletics
department's administrative staff and coaches. With seating for
3,500, the field house also accommodates commencement and other
large events. Additionally, a new baseball field and
improvements to the existing softball field were included in the
construction project.
SUNYIT can help meet your needs, be it for intercollegiate team
participation, intramural and recreational activities or health and
fitness programs. Please be sure to contact me with any questions
