Women's Basketball Has Three-Game Win Streak Snapped by Keuka

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped by the visiting Keuka College Storm in NEAC action at the Campus Center Gymnasium Wednesday night.  The loss dropped the Lady Wildcats to 11-6 in conference play and 12-7 overall, while Keuka improved to 15-1 in the NEAC and 17-1 overall.

It was a very sloppy first half for both teams, as there were a total of 19 turnovers and each team shot under 31 percent in the first 20 minutes of action, which left the score at 27-21 in Keuka's favor at the break.  The sloppy play continued into the second half with each team committing eight more turnovers, but Keuka was able to build a 10-point lead with 8:50 left on the clock. The Wildcats would slowly claw their way back into the contest and cut lead in half to trail by five, 48-43, with three minutes to play, but an 18-3 Keuka run to close the game helped the Storm seal the victory.

Senior Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) finished with nine points and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats, while sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) had nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.  Freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) also scored nine points and senior Taylor Topping (Bronx, NY/Preston) added six points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Brittany Schrock and Jessica Bandrowski each scored 12 points and had three steals apiece to lead Keuka, while Heather Fish grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with five points, two blocks and two steals.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Sunday when they host conference foe The College of Saint Elizabeth.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
